About the role: Xavier College is seeking to appoint a Violin Teacher starting Term 1-2025. This casual position has come about through an expanding program. It is anticipated that it will start at approximately 3 hours per week, but there is great scope for this to quickly increase depending on end of year and start of year enrolments. The position will consist of teaching individual students, however there is also the potential to conduct or assist at ensemble rehearsals. The teaching is currently based at the Junior School - Burke Hall Campus but could expand to the Senior School Campus. Both campuses are located in Kew. The Violin Teacher should be a highly capable musician who will play an important role in teaching music and developing the string program across the College. As well, the Violin Teacher should have excellent motivational skills evident in their teaching style and show commitment to inspiring appreciation and developing musical skills in students. Core Duties and Responsibilities: - Teaching individual violin students ranging in age from beginner to approx. AMEB Grade 4. The ability to teach up to VCE level is desirable but not essential.
- Liaising with the Head of Strings and other ensemble directors to support violin players in the ensembles
- Preparing students for recitals and exams
- Potentially assisting with other ensembles as required, including running potential violin/string sectionals
- Potentially tutor Chamber Groups (e.g. String Quartet, Piano Trio etc.)
- Attending any meetings/training as required
- Assisting with concerts as required
- Attending to administrative tasks as required
- Assisting with basic maintenance of stringed instruments
Selection Criteria - Experience in teaching a wide range of students and the ability to use a variety of different pedagogical approaches
- Ability to play and teach Viola (desirable but not essential)
- Ability to build a good rapport and relationships with students, parents, and other staff
- Some experience in working within a school environment is preferred
- Excellent organisational and communication skills
- Demonstrated knowledge of, adherence to and leadership for child safety, the Child Safe Standards and an exceptional culture of child safety
- Well-developed people skills coupled with strong communication and interpersonal skills, especially for the benefit of staff, students and parents
