About the Role:

The Head of Strings provides an important intersection at both the Senior School and Burke Hall between all aspects of music learning and the holistic educational programmes offered. 

 

The Head of Strings leads and cultivates student string culture across both campuses and facilitates effective learning and the formation of students into the best version of themselves. The role works constructively with the Head of Music, JS Music Coordinator, Music & College Staff and the wider Xavier Community, to ensure an aspirational, positive and relational culture is maintained across the College.

 

The Head of Strings will be a highly capable musician who plays an important role in continuing the development of the Strings program across the College.  The successful candidate will be known for their exceptional work ethic, professional and positive attitude, organisational skills, grace under pressure and the capacity to lead others while working effectively as part of a team.

 

Tenure:

  • Full time - Ongoing
  • FTE: 0.8 Teaching + 0.2 Time Release
  • Commencement: Monday 21 July, 2025 (Start of Term 3)

 

Selection Criteria:

  • Experience in teaching a wide range of students and the ability to use a variety of different pedagogical approaches.
  • Ability to build a good rapport and relationships with students, parents, and other staff.
  • Experience in leadership of an instrumental ensemble program (preferred but not essential)
  • Excellent organisational and communication skills.
  •  Established conducting skills and ability to run rehearsals with ensembles at all levels (preferred but not essential).
  • Demonstrated understanding of how to retain and build student numbers within the overall music program.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of, adherence to and leadership of child safety, the Child Safe Standards and an exceptional culture of child safety.
  • Well-developed leadership skills coupled with strong communication and interpersonal skills, especially for the benefit of staff, students and parents.
